For this editorial i wanted to do a piece which was fun and playful which showed some character because i had constrained myself to working in a pretty plain and boring way on the previous editorial. My initial idea was to have the illustration depict a man wearing two outfits; one being work dress and the other half being a lairy middle aged mans idea of perfect holiday attire. The character was originally going to have multiple arms doing actions which reflected the suit, However after further work i felt the illustration didn't really fit the purpose of the article. After a few trips back to the drawing board i decided to create a character with a paracetamol pill for a head with a cocktail in hand. I do think the piece works well however when i have more time i would like to revisit it and refine the image slightly.
( 1-3 show back up work. 4 is the final piece in context)

Numbers 1-3 show my initial final outcome in a variety of different compositions, However the quality of the work is pretty poor so i decided to rework the image. The concept already required the reader to work out the relationship between the text and image so the pie and the pieces needed to look much more realistic and closer to the actual items rather than simple blocked in shapes.
For the final image ( number 4) i used acrylic paint and i think the medium best suites what i was trying to achieve.

This was the first project given to us back at uni where we were to combine all the characters we had produced over summer and put them in social situation; as well as adding ourselves as a character. I was concerned it the piece would look like a mess with all the contrasting styles and mediums each character had all jumbled up together , however after some initial sketches and roughs i came up with an idea that was more of a design than a scene of the characters all sitting round a poker table. The artist i looked at to help me with the piece was the German painter Otto Dix, the painting skat players was especially helpful.
This character was really fun to make. im feeling more comfortable with creating 3d pieces and have been learning little tricks and techniques in the process of creating the characters which is not only improving the final outcome but also speeding up production time. If some spare time comes up i would love to create a mini series of characters and try to improve further.
